Joining the Club

Please read this before registering as a prospective member:

The KMC as a club and KMC members do not deliver formal instruction tuition or coaching. To join our meets at the Indoor wall you must have already passed the wallown competency test which will mean at the very least you can tie in and top-rope belay competently, however, please bear in mind that KMC members will mostly lead climb indoors. We would therefore encourage all prospective members to be able to lead belay indoors and be signed off to do so by the climbing wall. If you're a complete beginner at roped climbing, take a short course Indoors to get the basics and then practice the skills.

If attending our climbing meets outdoor, you should own and bring your own basic kit - harness, helmet, rock shoes etc.

If you are not a climber, but a hillwalker, fell runner, boulderer etc you are most welcome to sign up to join and attend suitable meets – not everyone in our club is a climber.

Newcomers are welcome to join our meets once registered as a 'Prospective'. This gives you a chance to see if you think the club is for you, and that the meets we run are what you are looking for. As a prospective member you can come to a few meets before deciding if you want to become an associate member.

As a Prospective member, you will receive 3 months of free BMC Third Party Liability Insurance. Prospective members are not counted as KMC members, it is only by joining the club as an 'associate member' that you become a club member. Registering as prospective starts the online application process.
