Big Depot Climbing Centre, Sharston, Manchester – newcomers’ night, climbing from around 6pm
The first Monday of each month is our newcomers’ night, and the best evening for your first visit to the club. Members will be there to say hello, introduce you around and help you find people to climb with. Each April we also run an outdoor newcomers’ meet – keep an eye on the meets list for this year’s date.
Before you come, please register as a ‘prospective member’ using the form on the ‘join KMC’ page, and tell us a bit about your climbing experience.
Please note, as a minimum, you must be signed off as 'competent' to belay at Big Depot by staff before you attend a meet. Most of our members lead climb, so being able to lead belay is a big help, though it isn’t strictly required. We may ask you to show a KMC member that you can belay safely when you join the meet.
Please be aware that KMC club members are not insured on club meets to act as instructors or to engage in formal tuition or competency courses for complete novices to roped climbing. If you are a ‘roped climbing’ novice, please check the Big Depot website for their introductory courses: https://www.depotclimbing.co.uk/big-depot-manchester/, or seek independent training from a registered provider.
Different meets require varying levels of experience and fitness. Please speak to the meet organiser before the meet if you are concerned about any issues with regard to the meet or your ability to participate in the activities proposed. Contact details can be found on the Contact Us page.
If you are considering coming along to a club meet, please read the following:
Participation Statement:
"I accept that mountaineering, climbing and walking are activities with a risk of personal injury or death.
I am aware of and shall accept these risks and wish to participate in these activities voluntarily and shall be responsible for my own actions and involvement."
